Panel asks House to drop Burford contempt citation

A House subcommittee recommended that a contempt of Congress citation against Anne Burford, former chief of the Environmental Protection Agency, be dropped. The resolution unanimously passed the subcommittee, but it faces strong opposition in the parent House Public Works Committee. The action to void the contempt citation is part of an attempt to end a power struggle between President Reagan and Congress over access to documents about the cleanup of toxic waste sites.
