Gift of thanks

Xiandong Yang, one of three high school exchange students from Harbin Institute of Technology, People's Republic of China, attending Phillips Academy, Andover, Mass., presents the work of Shenyan Ye, a famous Chinese calligrapher, to headmaster Donald McNemar. Xiandong translated the characters: 'With pleasure to foster talents.' Andover has had mainland China students from Harbin since 1981. Chinese is one of six modern written languages taught at Andover, and this summer the Andover-Harbin exchange will be reciprocal when an Andover student goes to China for study there.
