Brief, 'discreet' meeting set up for Pope, Walesa

A meeting between Pope John Paul II and Lech Walesa was scheduled for Sunday in Czestochowa, Poland, according to Roman Catholic church officials. The meeting will be brief, ''discreet,'' and without direct coverage by the press, Monitor special correspondent Eric Bourne reports. The Pope arrived here Thursday for an eight-day visit to his homeland, making a call for all Poles, even those in prison, to be close to him during his visit.

''I consider it my duty to be with my fellow countrymen in this sublime, and at the same time in this difficult, historical moment of out homeland,'' he said.
