US tries anew to create political thaw in Poland

The US has again offered to relax some of the sanctions it imposed against Poland if the Warsaw government begins to liberalize its military rule. Presidential spokesman Larry Speakes confirmed that the Polish situation was discussed recently at a meeting between Undersecretary of State Lawrence Eagleburger and Poland's charge d'affaires in Washington, Zdzislaw Ludwiczak.

According to a New York Times report, the Reagan administration told the Poles that if a ''significant'' number of political prisoners were released, the US would agree to join other Western countries in considering the rescheduling of Poland's $26 billion debt to the West.
