Going . . . going . . . gone - to aid Carter library

Former President Jimmy Carter is planning a big auction here Friday, selling everything from four hickory chairs he made himself to such things as Willie Nelson's running shoes, Brenda Lee's satin pumps, and a brand-new red Chevrolet. The items include a treasure-trove of Carter memorabilia, from a room-size portrait to his official inaugural medal to a paperback copy of ''Why Not the Best,'' his autobiography. The proceeds will benefit his presidential library in Atlanta.
