Contadora officials agree on regional peace proposal
Contadora foreign ministers have agreed on new treaty proposals for peace in Central America and will present them to their counterparts in the troubled region, according to diplomatic sources.
They said the Contadora foreign ministers - from Panama, Venezuela, Mexico, and Colombia - were to discuss their initiatives informally Thursday with the foreign ministers of El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala, and Costa Rica. The officials are here for the annual meeting of the Organization of American States.
The sources said the secret treaty proposals would carry out Contadora objectives of ending foreign military involvement in the region and requiring peaceful solution of disputes.
