Foreign Minister Pik Botha named the parties: the governments of South Africa and Angola, SWAPO, Namibia's internal multiparty conference grouping, and the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA), a guerrilla movement fighting the Angolan government.

Botha said South Africa is willing to take part in the conference ''without any condition, except the realization of peace.''

''The time has come for the leaders of southern Africa to resolve their differences themselves,'' he added.
