Lebanon, Libya resume diplomatic relations

Lebanon restored normal diplomatic relations with Libya Friday, six months after the Christian government froze ties because of Tripoli's support for anti-government Muslim factions in Lebanon.

Lebanon's Prime Minister-designate Rashid Karami, a Sunni Muslim, said Lebanon would try to improve ties with Iran. Lebanon broke ties with Iran after accusing it of supplying troops to rebel Muslim forces in Lebanon.

Meanwhile, Syria, which forced the scrapping of last year's American-backed Lebanese-Israeli agreement, said Saturday in a commentary in its government newspaper that it now aims to destroy the US-brokered Camp David peace accords between Egypt and Israel.
