Supertanker reported hit by missile in Persian Gulf

A Liberian-registered supertanker was reported hit by an Exocet missile in the Persian Gulf Wednesday, and Iraq warned foreign ships to stop dealing with Iran or face ''even more severe'' attacks.

Shipping sources in Zurich said the 260,000-ton tanker Tiburon, recently bought by a Swiss company, was hit in the engine room by a French-made Exocet and several crewmen were injured.

Iraq said its fighter planes had successfully attacked two ''large naval targets'' south of Kharg Island but, as usual, did not identify them.
