Greece to get French, US bids for 100 new fighter planes
Greece's Socialist government announced Tuesday it will spend $3 billion on fighter aircraft in the largest arms deal in its history. American and French manufacturers will compete for the lucrative contract. The order will be for between 80 and 100 aircraft. The decision will be made by November.
Greece is committed to renewing its Air Force planes to keep a balance of power with neighboring Turkey, with which it is at odds over rights in the Aegean Sea and cyprus.
