US exports rose but imports jumped in September trade

The US foreign trade deficit hit a record $33.3 billion from July through September, the Commerce Department reported Thursday. The new three-month record topped the former high mark of $26.3 billion, set from April through June. The weaker performance in the third quarter stemmed from a 10 percent jump in imports that swamped a 1 percent rise in exports.
