THE HEAVENLY KID -- Limp comedy-drama about a ghost from the 1950s who returns to Earth as a wimp's guardian angel. Directed by Cary Medoway. (Rated PG-13)

WEIRD SCIENCE -- That terrific title, copped from a '50s comic book, disguises an aggressively vulgar comedy about teen-age nerds who fabricate a sophisticated woman with a home computer. The action teeters tantalizingly on the brink of anarchy at times, but lacks the cleverness or courage to plunge on in. Written and directed by teen-movie specialist John Hughes, who indulges his usual theory that parents are to blame for the discontents of their children. (Rated PG-13) RATINGS: Films with ratings other than G may contain varying degrees of vulgar language, nudity, sex, and violence
