Seasons And Days Of Trees

The tree and its shadow Live in the meadow Where both have flourished Since I was young. In summer gray sheep Take shelter beneath Green branches where wrens And thrashers have sung.

Silence surrounds The tree like a wreath; Night falls like balm, Gradual, calm.

In winter the tree Is virtually bare, But faithful still Its shadow is there.
