Lilac Trees in Charlestown

They cluster at the window ledge, elegantly gowned in seasonable shades of softest violet, burgundy, and antique white, laughing and nodding.

Who could imagine these shimmering, perfumed sleeves lay once in mid-winter mantle serenely still hands folded just so?

It seems only yesterday each bough swayed with spritely clients returning to glean the warm, furrowed earth - too busy to notice the tight, fragrant buds.

Curiously, their breezy conversations are a mixture of memory and prophecy, a primeval and present first spring.
