Education ranks among the world's largest enterprises, with 900 million people enrolled in schools throughout the world. The Conference Board reports ``spectacular'' increases in college enrollment in both developing and industrial nations. Since 1970, the share of college enrollees among all students has doubled in such countries as Brazil and West Germany and quadrupled in South Korea.
In the United States, 58 million attended school in 1988. This figure is expected to reach 63 million by the year 2000. College enrollment will increase by about half a million.
