The American Teacher Awards (Disney, 7-10 p.m.): From the Warner Theatre in Washington, the Walt Disney Company and McDonald's pay tribute to 36 outstanding teachers. Also receiving honors are Maya Angelou, writer and civil rights advocate, and Eugene Lang, founder of the ''I Have a Dream'' Foundation.

The program, which includes celebrity presenters Harrison Ford and Richard Dreyfuss, airs during Disney's one-day free preview.


Friends (NBC, 8-8:30 p.m.): Chrissie Hynde, lead singer of the Pretenders, guest stars as a professional musician at the Central Perk coffeehouse, where she performs the Pretenders' single ''Angel of the Morning.''

Lea Thompson (''Caroline in the City'') also guest stars on ''Friends,'' as part of what NBC is billing a ''Star-Crossed Thursday.'' David Schwimmer (''Friends'') will make an appearance on ''The Single Guy'' at 8:30 p.m., and Matthew Perry (''Friends'') and Jonathan Silverman (''The Single Guy'') have cameo roles on ''Caroline in the City'' at 9:30 p.m.

Great Journeys (PBS, 8-9 p.m.): This series chronicles the personal quests of travelers as they explore far-reaching parts of the globe. In this episode, Ernie Dingo, who played a part in ''Crocodile Dundee II'' and is one of Australia's leading Aborigine actors, visits the rugged and remote Kimberley region of Australia. Dingo recounts the Aboriginal history of the area, including the Aborigine folk hero Jandamarra.

Other travels in this month-long, five-part series explore southern Africa, Morocco, Korea, and Mexico.
