The managing publisher position is a new one at the Monitor. Gray will supervise the paper's circulation, marketing, advertising sales, production, and distribution departments. He will report to CSPS Manager William H. Hill.

News operations remain under the supervision of Monitor Editor David T. Cook, who will continue to report to CSPS Editor in Chief J. Anthony Periton.

Gray and Mr. Cook each will meet weekly with the Christian Science Board of Directors, the five member church governing group that publishes this newspaper. Mr. Hill and Mr. Periton are members of the board.

"Steve brings years of valuable newspaper editing and publishing experience to his new role at the Monitor," Hill says.

"While Steve Gray and Dave Cook are responsible for different aspects of Monitor activity, Mr. Periton and I have asked them to work together as one to strengthen our paper. Their shared goal will be to develop improvements to every aspect of the Monitor so that it more completely fulfills the mission outlined by its founder, Mary Baker Eddy," Hill says. Monitor Publishing Director Brian McCauley will report to Gray.

Gray recently has served on a small CSPS team developing plans for the Monitor's future. In his new role, he will serve as chairman of that team.

"During the time we have been working together, I have found Steve to be deeply committed to Mrs. Eddy's vision for her newspaper. This appointment is a positive development for the Monitor," Cook says.
