FLORIDA WEST PALM BEACH NORTON MUSEUM OF ART Raoul Dufy: Last of the Fauves Through June 6. Fifty of Dufy's oil paintings are presented in hopes of restoring his reputation as one of the most talented and original artists in the first half of the century.

LOUISIANA NEW ORLEANS NEW ORLEANS MUSEUM OF ART Degas and New Orleans: A French Impressionist in America May 1 through Aug. 29. An assemblage of works by Degas completed during his stay in the Big Easy and upon his return to Europe.

MARYLAND BALTIMORE THE WALTERS ART GALLERY An Eye for Detail: 17th-Century Dutch and Flemish Paintings from the Collection of Henry H. Weldon June 20-Sept. 5. Sixty-seven small paintings, including works by Rubens and Van Dyck.

MASSACHUSETTS BOSTON THE MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS, BOSTON John Singer Sargent June 23-Sept. 26. Survey of the prolific American painter known for his astute and elegant society portraits. (See April 16 story.)

NEW YORK NEW YORK CITY THE WHITNEY MUSEUM OF AMERICAN ART The American Century: Art & Culture 1900-2000 (Part I) April 23-Aug. 22. The first of two installments, this exhibit focuses on the years 1900-1950, looking at the impact of immigration, technology, and mass media on American culture and art.
