NEAR OXFORD, PA. - SUMMER, 1925

Pauline Burgess prepares dinner while her daughters Mary and Gene eagerly await a hot meal. Mrs. Burgess was a 'city girl' who married a country boy who loved camping. Their recreational vehicle was the family car, outfitted with a tarp. The family averaged 100 miles a day on their journey from their home in North Carolina to visit friends in Maine. Ellen Burgess Turner, who provided this photograph, was born the year after this image was taken.
