Nov. 19-25 is National Family Week

Every year since 1972, Congress has designated one week to highlight the importance of the American family. The date usually coincides with the celebration of Thanksgiving.

Families may want to celebrate "their" week by spending time with each other and joining together in favorite activities. Go on a family outing, have everyone cook a meal, attend a sporting event, or open up an old family album.

About these ads

In school, students are encouraged to write about family topics and hold class discussions on the variety of family models.

Last year the White House Millennium Council sponsored "My History is America's History," to encourage families to record and preserve their own stories to pass on to the next generation.

For more information on National Family Week events and state celebrations currently scheduled, see www.familyweek. org.
