2. "Wishing for Tomorrow," by Hilary McKay

"Wishing for Tomorrow: The Sequel to A Little Princess," by Hilary McKay (Simon & Schuster, 273 pp., $16.99). The only thing bland about "Wishing for Tomorow" – Whitbread winner Hilary McKay's wonderful sequel to children's classic "A Little Princess" – is its title. McKay uses wit and empathy to create a worthy successor to the beloved original. (CSMonitor.com, 5/3/10)
