Moon Tiger, by Penelope Lively, the 1987 Booker Prize winner, is a book I loved when I first read it – and now even more as I reread it. Lively has created a distinctive main character: clever, attractive, amusingly not-always-lovable Claudia Hampton, a newspaper correspondent in Egypt during World War II. This book is both strong and delicate. I’m glad I picked it up again.
