Young genius Artemis Fowl may be coming soon to a theater near you.

The first two novels in the popular children’s series by Eoin Colfer will be adapted into a film by producer Harvey Weinstein and Disney, the latter announced.

“This is a special project for me because my children absolutely love this book,” Weinstein said in a statement. “This story is for everyone and there is no one better than Disney to make a film that will excite people young and old.”

Meanwhile, Disney president Sean Bailey said in a statement that the books’ “balance of mystery, adventure and family appeal” make the project “a natural fit for Disney."

Actor Robert De Niro and producer Jane Rosenthal of "Being Flynn," which starred De Niro, will be producing the film. Writer Michael Goldenberg, who penned the screenplay for the 2007 film “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix,” is aboard to adapt the script.

The first “Fowl” book was released in 2001 and the series consists of eight books altogether, with what was believed to be the last in the series, “The Last Guardian,” having been released in July 2012. The series follows Artemis, a teenager who plots crimes, and his encounters with the denizens of the fairy universe.
