Lifetime's remake of 'Flowers' has yet to air, but the network announced it's already developing an adaptation of the second novel in 'Flowers' author V.C. Andrews' series.
Lifetime’s TV remake of the V.C. Andrews novel “Flowers in the Attic” hasn’t even aired yet, but the network is already developing a sequel.
“Flowers” will air Jan. 18, and in the meantime, Lifetime is developing a TV version of the second book in Andrews’ series, which is titled “Petals on the Wind.” “Flowers” was released in 1979 and “Petals" followed in 1980, with Andrews penning five books about the Dollanganger family altogether.
Kayla Alpert, who wrote the adaptation of “Flowers,” said “Petals” is “a very juicy and compelling revenge drama,” according to Entertainment Weekly.
“Mad Men” actress Kiernan Shipka portrays protagonist Cathy in Lifetime’s upcoming version of “Flowers,” while actress Heather Graham portrays her mother and Ellen Burstyn plays her grandmother.
The novel was previously adapted into a film starring Kristy Swanson and Victoria Tennant in 1987. It was met with some controversy from fans because it left out the incestuous relationship between Cathy and her brother Chris, which is a large part of the book.
