Even after a 188 percent rise in foreclosures last year, the home of Fort Bragg still enjoys a startlingly low foreclosure rate – 0.5 percent – which ranked it 187th among 206 metropolitan areas. The presence of the large Army base helps to stabilize the local economy. It also masks the rising difficulties of nonmilitary families, struggling with unemployment.
