In late February, armchair explorers noted a strange, grid-like pattern on the seafloor about 600 miles west of the African coast. Some suggested that Google had revealed the legendary sunken city of Atlantis. Google later debunked the theory, claiming the pattern was caused by ships gathering bathymetric data using sonar.
