Holiday gift guide 2010: Gadgets
1. Kindle 3 ($139)
Last Christmas, the tight race between the top three e-readers made recommending a single device tough. Now, the front-runner is clear. The latest Kindle weighs less than many paperbacks, lasts two weeks on a single battery charge, and is backed by the enormous Amazon e-book store. Easy software updates keep the Kindle evolving, such as the upcoming ability to loan digital books to friends. There's still no color option, unlike Apple's iPad and the Barnes & Noble Nook, due in 2011. But Kindle's crisp e-ink screen makes marathon sessions as easy on the eyes as reading real paper.
