Across My Neighbor's Fence

A poem.

Across My Neighbor's Fence Across my neighbor's fence
a green apple
trailed by a tail
is bobbing.

Till a sudden leap
lands this apple-tail
across a fence
into my yard.

Where with great resolve,
a quick and eager head
(but half the apple's size),
buries its prize.

And,
having squirreled away a thing,
it succumbs to fall's urgings
and gallops on.
