Sales of existing homes rose 2.9 percent in February, the biggest increase in a year, but the home sales picture was mixed, the National Association of Realtors said Monday. The median home price plunged 8.2 percent from a year ago, to $195,900, the sharpest drop since record- keeping began in 1968.
The National Transportation Safety Board has confirmed that two steel connecting plates on the Minneapolis bridge that collapsed last August were visibly bent as early as 2003, according to the Star Tribune newspaper. Minnesota officials declined to say when the state first knew about the suspect plates.
While waiting for high water to recede in eastern Arkansas and southeastern Missouri, residents may see floodwater "going into areas where people have not seen it before," a National Weather Service meteorologist warned Sunday.
