What is he accused of doing?
The International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia accused Mladic of genocide, crimes against humanity, and war crimes for his involvement in the Srebrenica massacre of July 1995.
As commander of the Bosnian Serb Army, Mladic led the assault on the UN-designated safe zone of Srebrenica, where thousands of Bosnian Muslims had fled to escape attacks by Bosnian Serbs elsewhere in the country. After several days of laying siege to the town, Mladic and his forces entered, ordering about 25,000 women and children out and killing the vast majority of the Muslim men and older boys who remained – about 8,000 people, according to most reports.
The assault is considered the worst atrocity in Europe since World War II.
