Posing as the airline pilot of the flight he was kicked off of, Alec Baldwin apologized to himself on "Saturday Night Live."

The actor appeared on the sketch program's "Weekend Update" on Saturday night to lampoon Tuesday's incident, in which he was kicked off an American Airlines flight for refusing to stop playing a mobile phone game before takeoff.

As The Monitor reported:

"The celebrity refused to stop playing the interactive game Words With Friends, when instructed by an American Airlines flight attendant to shut down electronic devices. The crew kicked Mr. Baldwin off the Tuesday flight, and set in motion a cacaphony of comment and opinion from mainstream news media to the Twitterverse.

Baldwin used a post on Twitter to cast himself as the victim: "Flight attendant on American reamed me out 4 playing WORDS W FRIENDS while we sat at the gate, not moving," he wrote.

For its part, the airline said this on Twitter: "Our flight attendants were following federal safety procedures on electronic devices when aircraft door is closed."

Dressed as a Southern, mustachioed airline pilot, Baldwin issued an apology on SNL for the incident. The joke, though, was how obvious the ploy was.

The actor referred to himself as an "American treasure" who was playing "a word game for smart people."

"Weekend Update" host Seth Meyers repeatedly questioned the thinly veiled performance, asking Baldwin, "Are you sure this is the right way to handle this?"
