2. What about China’s currency?

Congress was already pressing Obama to get tough on what the US contends is Beijing’s policy of keeping its currency artificially low so that its products in turn remain artificially cheap. That pressure is likely to build under the new Congress. China has allowed minimal appreciation of the yuan in recent weeks – something economic experts say often occurs as Chinese leaders are about to participate in a major international event. But the United States is expected to push for more.
