Federal investigators are preparing to release information from their probe into a subway trolley crash allegedly caused by a driver distracted with text messaging.

The National Transportation Safety Board has been investigating the May 2009 Green Line accident that injured up to 46 passengers.

The accident occurred as a 24-year-old MBTA operator, Aiden Quinn, was typing a text message on his cell phone, according to phone records, transportation documents and witness testimony.

Quinn was later fired and charged with grossly negligent operation. The incident led the MBTA to ban cell phone use by operators.

The NTSB said the information being released on Wednesday includes investigative reports and other documents from the probe. A determination of probable cause will be released in a future report.
