IQ or infinite qualifications?

The true story is told of a headmaster who highly commended a teacher for the incredible progress her class was making. She replied that this was hardly surprising, considering the high IQ numbers of the children. The numbers turned out to be those of their storage lockers: She had thought of the students, and treated them, as having exceptional intelligence, and they had naturally responded.

What limits we set for ourselves and others! Does a lump of gray matter really know how to be mathematical? Does one brain know how to be practical, another impractical? Why tie man and everything to do with him to the limitations of matter?

The Science of Christianity, discovered over one hundred years ago by Mary Baker Eddy, is the finest weapon ever forged for overcoming such limitations. It reaches endlessly beyond the psychology of the human mind. It teaches that for all it may appear to be so, the source of intelligence is not in matter.Divine interlligence is God. To agree that God, to be God, must be infinite is to agree He must be infinite intelligence., or what sort of an ignoramus or partially intelligent God do we envisage?

In the Glossary to her book Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures,m Mrs. Eddy defines "intelligence" as "substance; self-existent and eternal Mind; that which is never unconscious nor limite." n1 It may be surprising to find intelligence classified as substance, which is generally looked upon as material. But how much worthwhile substance would we have if we were totally without intelligence?

n1 Science and Health,m p. 588;

Christ Jesus held no academic degrees. Yet he spoke with such authority and wisdom that his hearers said, "How knoweth this man letters, having never learned?" n2 Which is equivalent to, "With only the education of any Jewish boy, how is this man so wise?" If they continued to listen, they gained the answer, for Jesus said, "My doctrine is not mine, but this that sent me." n3

n2 John 7:15;

n3 v. 16;

The writer has had many experiences of learning, through no human agency, what he could not otherwise have known. He must have been listening rightly when, motoring alone down a narrow lane, he felt impelled for no apparent reason to stop. Round the bend ahead came a car traveling so fast it stopped a bare foot from his fender. That inspiration did not come from the brain; it came from the source of all intelligence, God.

To believe matter somehow bestows, often grudgingly, an intelligence quotient on each one of us, can be limiting and depressing. The liberating truth is that we have infinite spiritual qualifications bestowed by divine Mind, or infinite Love -- God Himself. Their presence indicates His abundant love.

This does not all dawn on us say, at 2:30 on a Friday afternoon. We do not have to know everything at once. It is sufficient to trustingly expect, for ourselves and others, the thoughts we need today.

"Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths" n4 is, therefore, not archaic nonsense, but the greatest wisdom. It reveals for everyone the priceless gift of infinite qualifications.

n4 Proverbs 3:5, 6.

DAILY BIBLE VERSE If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. I Peter 4:11
