Britain's unions decide against printing strike

Britain's Trades Union Congress (TUC) drew back from a battle with the Conservative government over new labor laws, voting not to support a one-day nationwide printing strike planned by the National Graphical Association.

The strike, originally set for Wednesday but delayed for the TUC's decision, would have deprived the country of all newspapers. Union leaders said they thought the vote effectively ended the dispute over union representation at a northern England newspaper chain.
