New South African group to support apartheid

A widening split among South Africa's ruling right-wing white supremacist Afrikaners was foreshadowed by an announcement Sunday that the former head of their secretive, influential brotherhood society plans to set up a rival organization.

Carel Boshoff, who resigned from the ''Broederbond'' last year because it backed government reforms giving Indians and Coloreds (people of mixed race) limited power-sharing, was quoted as saying he hoped to bring together right-wing groups. He said his organization would be open to ''all Afrikaners who subscribe to the aims of separate development (apartheid) and the retention of a separate cultural identity.''
