Israel arrests members of Jewish underground group
Israeli Police staged raids on towns and villages all over Israel and the occupied Arab territories Sunday, arresting dozens of suspected members of an underground Jewish group believed responsible for attacks on Arab civilians, police sources said.
Police would not say officially how many people had been arrested, but Israeli newspapers and radio stations put the figure at between 30 and 40 and said more were being sought.
In an unusual procedure, judges were brought to the cells of the suspects for brief hearings after which the prisoners were ordered held 15 days. The judges prohibited publication of the names of any of the accused, the sources said.
