PLO leader is promised more weapons by China
Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat secured a Chinese commitment Monday to supply further weapons to the Palestine Liberation Organization. The official New China News Agency quoted Premier Zhao Ziyang as telling Mr. Arafat that China would provide ''the cause of Palestinian liberation with political, material, and moral assistance within its capability.''
Middle East diplomats took the term ''material assistance'' to mean military and medical aid. China is a longtime backer of the PLO.
Mr. Zhao gave the assurance before Arafat left for North Korea after a three-day visit to China.
