FIRST LADY GIVES THUMBS-UP STATUS REPORT ON BUSH
Barbara Bush delivered an upbeat report on the president yesterday, following his hospitalization on Saturday for what doctors diagnosed as an irregular heartbeat. ``He looks great,'' she said. ``He's had no pain, no strain, no nothing.'' She spoke as she left Bethesda Naval Hospital, where she had spent the night with her husband.
White House spokesman Marlin Fitzwater said President Bush's schedule for this week would remain unchanged.
Mr. Bush complained of shortness of breath and fatigue while running at the presidential retreat in Camp David, Md., shortly after returning from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. He underwent tests after entering the hospital about 6 p.m. Within a couple of hours he was making phone calls, watching television, and enjoying a steak dinner with his wife. Vice President Dan Quayle phoned Bush Saturday evening and said they had a ``lighthearted'' conversation, and Bush even raised some business matt ers.
