EUROPEAN COMMUNITY LAUNCHES NEW ROUND OF PEACE TALKS

Leaders of the republics of the former Yugoslavia have been invited to attend the 13th plenary session of European Community-sponsored peace talks in Brussels on Friday, a British Embassy spokeswoman said yesterday.

Bosnia-Herzegovina boycotted the last full session of the talks in Brussels on May 6 because President Alija Izetbegovic said he could not safely leave his capital Sarajevo, besieged then as now by Serbian forces.

The spokeswoman said the decision to hold the talks had been made over the weekend, but she could not say who would attend or why the meeting was being called only two weeks before an international conference on Yugoslavia in London on Aug. 26-28.
