OTHER MUSEUMS TAKE THE PLUNGE

Small signs of museum expansion, after almost a decade of meager activity, are appearing on the horizon. In addition to Kansas City's Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art and Design, the Baltimore Museum opened a new wing last Sunday, and the Phoenix Art Museum broke ground in May for a $25-million project to double its current size.

Baltimore's New Wing for Modern Art is designed by Bower Lewis Thrower/Architects of Philadelphia. The $10-million wing adds 35,000 square feet and will feature 20th-century art, including the first showing of 18 newly acquired works by Andy Warhol.
