A Spot of Sibling Shut-Eye

In the late afternoon of a hot, dusty day in the small village of Yujiang, China, a brother and sister nap. They're curled up like puppies in a rocking chair that sits in the back of their family's shop, which sells hand-woven baskets used for grain and rice. In 1988, Monitor photographer Melanie Stetson Freeman and a reporter visited this out-of-the-way place to do a story on the richest man in China. He had started a wood-carving factory that employed many people in this, his hometown.
