April Folly

If, as a Persian sage once said,

in every man is an owl, a goose,

About these ads

a parrot, lion, a hyena,

each one at times predominating -

the frozen rivers, mountain streams

risen from their winter dreams,

something surfaces in me, too:

no use to try to keep some trace

of an owlish sober-sided face,

About these ads

wherever I go, I can't help knowing

the silly goose in me is showing.
