Staff writer, Los Angeles ( Email Jessica )
Jessica Mendoza serves as The Christian Science Monitor's West Coast correspondent. From the greater Los Angeles area, she covers (among other things) education, politics, culture, and women's rights issues.
She began life at the Monitor in 2015 as an intern at the Boston office, where she worked her way from the web team to the National News desk. She welcomed the opportunity to head west as a full staffer in the spring of 2016.
In a previous life, Jess was a radio DJ for a top 40 station and courtside reporter for a pro basketball league in the Philippines. She holds a bachelor's in communication from Ateneo de Manila University and a master's in journalism from Northeastern University. She has written no books and won no awards (yet), but enjoys reading the work of people who have. Jess also likes to travel, sing in the shower, and engage in intelligent conversation about Star Wars lore.
Before coming to the Monitor, Jess was the Human Rights Fellow for The GroundTruth Project, a nonprofit journalism group. Her work has appeared on GlobalPost, The Huffington Post, and Rappler.com.
