“Room,” by Emma Donoghue (Little, Brown and Company, 336 pp.) is told from the memorable point of view of five-year-old Jack. Raised by his mother in an 11'x11' room, Jack's sheltered existence is rocked to its core when he learns that there is a whole world beyond Room. Monitor reviewer Yvonne Zipp wrote of "Room" that, "Despite the ripped-from-the-headlines topic, there's nothing lurid or prurient about this story of a young mom who is determined to create the best life she can for her son, no matter how horrifying her circumstances."
