"Faithful Place" by Tana French (Viking, 416 pp.) (CSMonitor review, 8/19/10) tells the story of Frank Mackey, a young man who decides to flee Dublin and his dysfunctional family and start a new life with girlfriend Rosie. But Rosie disappears on the night of their planned escape and Frank must move on without closure. Then, 22 years later Rosie’s body is found and Mackey, now a detective assigned to the case, must return to confront his old neighborhood and his past.
