4 audiobooks that focus on love
Love – joyous, tortured, familial, romantic – is at the heart of these four audiobooks. All titles can be found at Audible or are available from a local library.
1. 'The All-Girl Filling Station’s Last Reunion,' by Fannie Flagg
When Sookie Poole, an Alabama matron, discovers that almost nothing about her life is what she had believed it to be, she sets out to learn the truth about her birth and her connection to a large Polish family from Wisconsin. Fannie Flagg, as always, weaves humor into her story, but what captivates most is her account of the Women Airforce Service Pilots whose members served during World War II without credit or military status. There are plenty of twists, but Flagg manages by the end to pull multiple subplots neatly together. She also narrates with plenty of comedic verve and regional accents that are only slightly over the top. Grade: A-
