Pythons on the loose

Image 1 of 20

United States Geological Survey (USGS) researchers recapture a 17-foot-7-inch-long Burmese python in Everglades National Park near Homestead, Fla., April 23, 2012. The record-breaking python weighed 164 pounds and carried 87 eggs in its oviducts. USGS scientists had outfitted her with two radio transmitters, a GPS device, and a motion-sensing device before releasing her back into the wild in March 2012. The snake remained in the wild for 38 days and then was recaptured in April and euthanized.
