After serving as US president from 1977-1981, Jimmy Carter founded the Carter Center, a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization addressing issues of public policy in the US and abroad. The Center mediated conflicts all over the world.

Mr. Carter’s Peace Prize was “for his decades of untiring effort to find peaceful solutions to international conflicts, to advance democracy and human rights, and to promote economic and social development.”
