Andrés Cala is an award-winning journalist, columnist, and analyst based in Madrid whose career spans three continents and over a dozen countries. Originally from Colombia, his work has been published and translated globally, including in Foreign PolicyThe New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Dow Jones Newswires, and Time

Before moving to Europe, he covered Colombia’s civil war, the democratic transition in Caribbean countries, Guantanamo Bay prison, the 2004 coup in Haiti, and immigration and politics in the US. In France and Spain his coverage has specialized in geopolitics and the economy, particularly relating to energy, and on Europe’s political and economic crisis. In 2012 Bloomsbury published his first book, America’s Blind Spot: Chávez, Energy, and US Security. He studied political science and holds a master's in journalism.
